Set Pear
My 11 year old niece is showing signs of developing an eating disorder, how do I help her?
My niece is tall for her age and has a pear shape and a bit of a belly, she is big boned and very beautiful if not to the emaciated size 0 that is the gold standard right now for cultural supression of the Warrior woman archetype. She is to grow to roughly 6′ tall and I am concerned she is going to set herself up for health problems if she does the yo-yo thing or anything worse. We are telling her mum over the weekend of her recent bad eating habits and excessive exercising.
I am having a thin boned but very athletic galpal of mine chat with her about eating healthy and exercising. I have said that to her many times but I have medication related wieght issues, will hearing information from a “skinny” girl work or backfire? Should I scare her with some photos and stories of follks dying to be thin? If I can nip this foolishness in the bud I know she will grow into a fierce and fabulous young woman. THANKS!
ok i dont want to be rude. but dont go to her mom. go to her. and talk to her. ask her why she is doing this. i use to be anorexic when i was younger. and my godmother was going to go to my mom but she sat down and asked me things of why i was doing it. and i got it all out. and i didnt even need to go to a theripast. all bc SHE talked to me and didnt drag my mom into it. but talk to her 1st. and then tell her if she wants to lose weight than youll help her and train her. and im positive that she will listen to you bc its not her mom. then if she agrees to stopping this and letting you help tell her ok and dont mention it to anybody. but watch her closely. to make shure she is keeping her word to you. and THEN if she doesnt it is time to envolve her mother tell her that she broke her promise so she needs to be helped by someone she will listen to. but plz i am asking u to just talk to her 1st alone. itll help her so much more.
