Is having a pearl necklace re-thread very expensive?
The store should not be charging you on the basis of the quality of your pearls, rather on the length, whether you want knots between each pearl (yes you do or they will rub and get damaged), and possibly the type of string (but only a few stores even brought this up but choose the better one). I found the charge for an 18″ knotted string (with the clasp intact.. if you need a new one it will add to the price) was from $25 to $40. You are better off going to a higher end non-chain store as I have found they depend on their reputation more and tend to hire people who will be working with the jewelry and pearls as a career rather than a job… IMO.
