Should I stay home with my kids or find a babysitter?
I have a good paying job, but no reliable babysitter. My fiance says I can stay home with the kids if I want, but I want to have some income. I’m debating wether or not I should babysit. I need to know the pros and cons, or maybe some suggestions. I am starting to sell lia sophia jewelry for extra money also.
I am a firm believer in doing what makes your family happy. Personally, staying at home and seeing my boys grow makes me happy. It seems that would make you happy too by the way your question is worded!
Without knowing your finances [car payments, mortgage, rent, etc..] I can’t tell you if it would be ‘smart.’ I know from my own personal experience that there are a few perks that we all can live without. You could cut back there. eBay is a great thing to get into. My husband uses eBay to sell his old video games and old collectables. I send the packages, do the online stuff, find good bargains, and basically do the ‘business.’ It works for us and brings in extra income for extras but in no way creates a steady income. Selling your jewelry can work too.
Pros:
-Watching your children daily and being able to have that extra time to teach them more then what they just need to know.
-Being able to save on the charges of babysitting, lunches, gas to and from work, and other expenses that go along just with working. Depending on your income [at your current job] it might be cheaper to just stay at home.
-Have the ability to instill more important morals into your children.
Cons:
-Being a stay-at-home-mom is a big commitment. I consider it as a job. My job is to raise my boys and give them everything they need WHILE staying sane. I do this by participating with as many activities as possible–play groups, being active in the community, teaching, and creating a stable enviornment. It doesn’t seem hard and it really isn’t after you get the hang of it. Too many times I see stay-at-home-moms doing nothing for their children. They stay at home day and night making the parent lonely and not getting the child to socialize. That can be a bad thing. You really have to put yourself out there.
-If something were to happen to your fiancé you would be stuck unless you have very good support from family.
-Unless you were committed to being ‘the best you can be’ you wouldn’t have friends. [That is if you didn't become active around your community.]
Really, I see no cons unless you create them yourself. It’s up to you. If you truely feel you should stay at home then do it. It’s very possible. Do what makes YOU happy!
